The Alley of Liberty Tree Planting 2021

The new Alley of Liberty was planted on November 13 at the Vojna Memorial near Příbram. 400 volunteers planted 11 lime trees and 89 maples near the former labor camp for political opponents of the communist regime. The planting was a symbolic effort to atone for the injustices that took place at the site and an effort to bring life back to the landscape. The kilometre-long planting area will provide water retention for the landscape and prevent soil erosion. 99 trees were planted along the dirt road from the Vojna settlement to the Zavržice settlement and the Vojna Memorial. One tree, a descendant of the important Masaryk Linden, was symbolically planted in the grounds of the Vojna Memorial with the number 100. Locals and tourists alike will be able to use the new route. There are several hiking trails, a cycle path and the Via Nova Pilgrimage Route.
