Ewald Fortsetzung 4/5, Utilization of Coal-Mine-Methane

In this project, coal mine methane (CMM) is drained from abandoned shafts 4 and 5 of the Ewald-Fortsetzung mine in Oer-Erkenschwick, a town in the district of Recklinghausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The project helps control the negative environmental effects of an abandoned coal mine by reducing local air pollution from passive methane emissions. This methane is utilized for the generation of power which is fed into the public power grid. This project reduces approximately 188,263 metric tons of CO2e per year.
